SCHOOL HEALTH PROGRAMME & SANITATION CAMPAIGN

After the child’s home, school represents the second most influential environment in a child’s life. As more students enter schools with health or mental health problems, pediatricians face the challenge of managing their care throughout the school day. The school nurse is the health care representative on site.The role of the school nurse in serving as a team member in providing preventive services, early identification of problems, interventions, and referrals to foster health and educational success.

The community health nursing department and NSS unit of Nehru college of Nursing organized a school health programme at TRK Higher secondary school vaniyamkulam on Sep 28th 2022. Around 107 students took part in the programme which included, 57 boys,50 girls. Dr. Reshma  (Optometrist , PKDIMS ) Dr. Nirmal ( H S , PKDIMS ) had done  ophthalmic screening and medical check-up of all the students in the school. Their sincere service makes the programme successful. The 4th year BSc Nursing students assisted for screening and anthropometric measurements of all school children. After the assessment Health education program was conducted regarding menstrual hygiene and substance abuse. Along with the health screening Health exhibition was arranged in the school with anatomical models, charts & specimens.

Afternoon session had a sanitation campaign by NSS volunteers. They have cleaned the ground and all other school premises. This campaign  uplifted the Swachh Bharath theme of our nation among school children. The team work of our students make the school health programme successful.
