INTERNATIONAL DAY AGAINST DRUG ABUSE AND ILLICIT TRAFFICKING

The world drug problem is a complex issue that affects millions of the people worldwide. Many people who use drugs face stigma and discrimination which can further harm their physical and mental health and prevent them from accessing the help they need.

The aim of this year is to raise awareness about the importance of treating people who use drugs with respect and empathy, provide evidence based, voluntary services for all, offering alternatives to punishment, prioritizing prevention and leading compassion

As a part of this special day, Department of Mental Health Nursing along with third year BSc Nursing students organized poster making competition, short film competition and seminar presentation on 26/06/2023 Monday from 10.45 am to 12.30 pm.

Our beloved Principal, Dr Prof. Sreenivas Gandhi delivered inaugural address and revealed the theme of the day. The theme of this year is “People first: stop stigma and discrimination, strengthen prevention”. The faculties, third year BSc nursing students and second semester BSc nursing students were the participants of the programme. The Principal Prof. Dr Sreenivas Gandhi, Lt Col Dr. Regina, Mrs Ushus and Mrs Sathyasri made the judgement for poster making competition and short film competition by the evaluation criteria.

The HOD of Mental Health Nursing, Mrs. Sathyasri R presented the seminar on drug abuse for the participants. It was very interactive and useful session for the participants. Seminar covered overall idea regarding drug abuse, commonly abused drugs and illicit trafficking.

The four batches participated in the short film competition very well. All the students took effort and hard work for releasing the short film. Four short films were displayed in front of participants. The creativity, orginality, sound effects and the content of all short films were appreciable. 2 posters from 3 batches were displayed in college. 6 posters were attractive, reflecting the theme, creative and colourful.

The programme was ended by thanking all of them gathered there and by national anthem at 12.30pm.
