WORLD KIDNEY DAY- 2021

Recently, data from the International Society of Nephrology’s Kidney Disease Data Center  reported prevalence of CKD in different Indian regions ranges from <1% to 13%. World Kidney Day is a global campaign aimed at raising awareness of the importance of our kidneys. World Kidney Day (WKD) is celebrated every year on the second Thursday of March. The world kidney day steering committee has declared 2021 the year of “Living well with kidney disease”. This has been done in order to both increase education and awareness about effective symptom management and patient empowerment, with the ultimate goal of encouraging life participation. Whilst effective measures to prevent kidney disease and its progression are important, patient with kidney disease – including those who depends on dialysis and transplantation – and their care-partners should also feel supported, especially during pandemics and other challenging periods, by the concerned efforts of health care communities. With regards to world kidney day SOUL SPARKERS of NCN conducted a health awareness programme for care-partners of Dialysis patients at our parent hospital PKDIMS on 20th March 2021. The programme was aimed to provide all necessary education to help CKD patients to improve their health and slow progression of the condition, and also teach them how to effectively participate in their care.
