A lecture series on “Media Trial and Human Rights Violations”
A lecture series on “Media Trial and Human Rights Violations” was inaugurated at Nehru Academy of
Law on (16-11-2019) at Sastra Hall, Jawahar Campus. The session kickstarted with an inaugural
lecture and elite address by former Chief Justice of Honourable High Court of Kerala and Chairman of
Kerala State Human Rights Commission, Hon’ble Justice Antony Dominic. The program was
exemplary with former Chief Justice indulging so dynamically and disseminating into the topic of
Global Relevance Media Trial and Human Rights Violation. His knowledge coupled with his
experience of holding the biggest office and his simplicity as a person touched everyone alike.
Adv. Dr. P. Krishnadas Chairman and Managing Trustee, Nehru Group of Institutions presided over
the function and set the tone for the day. He recollected the turmoil he had undergone on account
of cooked up media trail. But he never expressed any regret or vengeance to the media. Dr. P. D
Sebastian, Principal, Nehru Academy of Law welcomed the gathering. Sri. Prakash, Kerala State
Member of the Bar Council of India felicitated the occasion. He did not hesitate to talk about the
dangers and evil behind media trials and gave examples of Nambi Narayanan and people who lost
everything they had due to media paparazzi and media trials. Dr. RC Krishnakumar Director
Operations joined the session deliberating about media responsibilities and rights of the accused
until convicted.
The session also witnessed the honoring of 16 veteran advocates with over 50 years of standing at
the bar in the overwhelming presence of the most elite lawyers from the Bar Council. The former
chief justice appreciated the efforts for honoring veteran lawyers. As the saying goes Acharya Devo
Bhava.
The relationships maintained by Adv. Unnikrishnan came handy to bring veterans like Adv. P.B
Menon and others into the limelight only to win hearts. The immensely enlightening session
concluded with a vote of thanks from Ms. Aparna Chandran, Final Year Law Student, Nehru Academy
of Law.
