BREAST FEEDING WEEK CELEBRATION 2023
“Breastfeeding is the process of feeding Human breast milk to a child either directly from the breast or by expressing the milk from the breast and bottle feeding it to the infant. The WHO recommends that begin with in First hours of a babies life and continue as often as much as the baby wants..”
World Breastfeeding Week was held in the first week of August every year, supported by WHO, UNICEF and many Ministries of Health and civil society partners. This year’s theme is to focus on breastfeeding and work, providing a strategic opportunity to advocate for essential maternity rights that support breastfeeding – maternity leave for a minimum of 18 weeks, ideally more than 6 months, and workplace accommodations after this point. These are urgent issues for ensuring women can breastfeed as long as they wish to do so: more than half a billion working women are not given basic maternity provisions; many more find themselves unsupported when they go back to work.
The theme of breast feeding week of 2023 is “ENABLING BREAST FEEDING MAKING A DIFFERENCE FOR WORKING PARENTS”. Motherhood is a joyous and fulfilling journey, but it also presents various challenges, particularly in ensuring the well-being of both the baby and the mother.
