Pulse Polio drive of 2021
With the global initiative of eradication of polio in 1988 following World Health Assembly resolution in 1988, Pulse Polio Immunization programme was launched in India in 1995. Children in the age group of 0-5 years administered polio drops during National and Sub-national immunization rounds (in high risk areas) every year. The pulse polio immunisation drive to cover almost 25 lakh children in the state. Pulse Polio will be administered to 2.11 lakh children below five years of age in the Palakkad district on Sunday.Pulse Polio administration would be under strict COVID-19 restrictions.
On 29/1/2021 pulse polio Immunization training programme was conducted in Nehru College Of Nursing .Health team of Vaniamkulam PHC given the training programme regarding pulse polio .The trainers are Mrs Sabiya LHI, PHC Vaniamkulam Mrs Smitha JHI, PHC Vaniamkulam.The participants are NSS volunteers of Nehru College Off Nursing .
Pulse polio programme had been conducted by the Indian government on 31-01-2021,as part of that in association with Vaniamkulam primary health Center 47 NSS volunteers of Nehru college of nursing participated in that programme. One behalf of participation students have allotted in different polio booths and they have given polio drops for the children there who have come to the polio booth. The drive will be held between 8am and 5pm.Trained vaccinators will be deployed in all vaccination booth on that day.
Panchayat president Mr.Gangadharan inaugurate the polio administration drive at the primary health center Vaniamkulam . Medical Officer Dr Hari Das ,Health Inspector Mr Berlin Britto,LHI Mrs Sabiya will preside the programme. .Mss sindhu (ward 4) Member,and Mr. Pradeep Health and Standing Committee Chairman of Vaniamkulam Panchayath also inaugurate the programme .NSS volunteers of Nehru college of nursing actively participated in this programme .
As many as 25 booths will be set up for the vaccine administration.Each polio booth will be manned by two students and the health workers of Vaniamkulam panchayath.50 health workers and 8 supervisors have been employed for the polio drive
The 15 NSS volunteers of Nehru College of nursing accompanied with the PHC health team for follow up visit at Vaniamkulam Panchayath. Those children who fail to take polio vaccine from the booths on Sunday will be given immunization on Monday and Tuesday. The health staff of Vaniamkulam PHC and the students of Nehru College of Nursing will reach the homes to administer the vaccine for them.
If there is a Covid-positive person in the house, then immunization will be given to the child in that house only after 14 days of the child testing negative. For children below five years of age testing Covid-19 positive, immunization will be given only after four weeks of the child testing negative.
